I am an artist living in Decatur, GA. Originally from Mississippi, I come from a family of artists ... painters, designers, poets, and just generally creative folks. I have been a designer, a gallery associate, and a pre-school art teacher. Now I paint full-time and teach a children’s art class in my studio.
I work in a variety of media, including oil and acrylic paint, charcoal, and graphite. While my portraits are created using more traditional media, my narrative paintings are constructed with both brushes and non-traditional tools such as children’s toys, found objects, and kitchen gadgets to make multilayered marks.
I gather ideas like a magpie gathers shiny objects. From this collection of gleaming detritus, I create characters and employ symbolic elements to construct meaningful relationships within an image. My paintings are nonsensical narratives that represent vignettes of human experiences and emotions.
